HMD Global has the rights to make and sell Nokia Android phones across various markets and the company says it is now going to make its own HMD-branded phones for consumers.

HMD Global has officially denied those rumours and confirmed that Nokia phones will be available in the market and it will continue to make new Nokia phones in the near future. “I am sure you may have seen that at HMD, we are updating our channels from ‘Nokia Mobile’ to ‘HMD’. This change is more than just a new name – we’re introducing a fresh new multi-brand strategy,” HMD Global mentioned in its statement. HMD Global explains the changes going around at the company which includes rebranding the Nokia Mobile website to HMD, one of the reasons why many people thought this is the end of the brand Nokia.

The company also assured that Nokia phones are not going anywhere, in fact, you will see more new Nokia phones later this year and further. The changes are most likely happening because HMD Global is finally spreading its wings beyond a brand licensee which allows the company to sell phones with its own brand name. “You will continue to see new Nokia phones. Nokia has a big nostalgia value in the market but the next phase of growth of HMD will be a challenge as it looks to focus on two brands rather than one big entity.
